MEETING MINUTES    Submitted by Janet Joehlin
1)  Welcome to
new officers & committees.

2)  Treasury Report:  Please see the Treasury Webpage for a current balance.  Linda Cline is looking into
obtaining a BankOne checking account for our treasury money.

3)  Linda Cline will research the procedure to have OLAQ recognized as a non-profit organization.

3)  Linda Bennett reported that the Burton Quilt Show is still on hold.

4)  Discussion on OLAQ becoming a guild under AQS or IMQA.  Why?  For the purpose of promoting ourselves
and NOT expanding our membership.  Linda Bennett will check on guild status and (again) Linda Cline will check
on non-profit org. status.

5)  Pat Waldron reported on the DeLoa Jones class on Friday May 27.  It will be a 6 hour class on leaves &
flowers starting at 9 am.  There will be a Friday night show and tell.  Rooms at the Mawana Lodge are available
Friday night for $85 and anyone can stay the night for the Sat. meeting.  10 people are interested in the class
so far.  Pat will forward DeLoa the names and DeLoa will be in contact with more info.  Saturday's (May 28,
2005) meeting will consist of business first with DeLoa's demo/lecture afterwards. A vote was taken (and
PASSED) to allow funds from the treasury to pay the balance of the program fee.   Members attending the
demo/lecture will pay a fee TBA with the OLAQ treasury paying the balance TBA.    Anyone wishing to attend the
meeting and not staying for the program will not have to pay.

6)  Kathy McCarty presented Mary Zeitz with a thank you gift from the membership
for her previous year's work with OLAQ.  Thank you Mary for all the work you did.

7)  Discussion on NEORQC meeting we are hosting in March.  OLAQ will
be paid $250 for hosting.  Sarah Bistline reported that 70-80 people usually
attend NEORQC meetings.  There is NO RSVP so we won't have a definite
number.  Weather may affect the attendance.  Lunch will be a pot luck but
our group provides muffins, pastries and coffee for breakfast.  Program
Committee will work on doorprizes, table coverings and nametags.
Fund Raising Committee will work on raffle baskets.  Plans need to be solid
by the February meeting.

8)  Linda Miller (fund raising chairperson) asked for volunteers to contact a few different guilds about the Small
Quilt Auctions they hosted this year.  She passed out information to the volunteers.

9)  Shirley Stutz announced that A Touch of Thread in Zanesville (owned by our members Doug and Martha
Creasy) will be hosting long arm classes in 2005.  Tentatively scheduled are Nichole Webb in April, Karen
McTavish in August and Linda Taylor in September.  An e-mail will be sent to our list prior to classes being
offered to the public at large.  The shop is being moved east of Zanesville within the next few months, to a large
spacious area.

10) Ellie Monroe offered project boxes to anyone who wanted them.  Thank you Ellie.

11) The January meeting will be at Linda Miller's home in Uniontown, Ohio (central to the group).  A $3.00 fee
will be charged for pizza.

12) Sarah Bistline agreed to be the NEORQC representative for our group (since she is at every NEORQC
meeting anyways!)

13) Mary Zeitz brought up the percentages of our membership who votes and doesn't vote on the polls she
posts.  She just wants to encourage ALL 42 MEMBERS to VOTE on anything that comes up. There are always 3
choices and one of them usually pertains to each of us.  PLEASE VOTE!

14) Discussion on meeting day changes?  Leave it on Saturdays!

15) Mary Zeitz reported that our Yahoo discussion group is not open to the public.  It is members only, so please
be assured of our privacy.  Just be careful what you say.

16)
BYLAWS.  What should the number of required meetings be?  4 was decided on earlier. How many rules
should we have?   Discussion followed.  Here are a few highlights.
*Dottie Bettiker suggests there be NO LIMIT on meeting attendance.  Long discussion follows, mostly concerning
individual participation.  Mixed response.
* Linda Cline suggests Vendor Partners.  They would pay dues, participate on-line but have NO voting privleges
and NOT be included in our 40 member guild limit. Who are they?  Shop owners, teachers, suppliers, etc.
Members gave a positive response to this.
*Shirley Stutz suggests everyone at the beginning of the year state what they think they might contribute to
OLAQ for the year. Another positive response.
*Jodi Robinson suggested members hosting workdays.  A way for smaller groups to get to know each other
better, a time to share and work above and beyond our regular meetings. Another positive response.

A vote was taken on the last open issue of our by-laws.  4 choices were given:
  >  A 4 meeting requirement per year.                        (0 votes)
   >  No meeting requirement but MUST participate.    (13 votes)
  >  No meeting limit and No participation required.     ( 8 votes)
  >  Abstain                                                                  ( 1 vote)

Choice #2 PASSED - No meeting requirement but PARTICIPATION is required.  The officers will review the
contribtuions of all members at the end of the membership year and have the authority to terminate anyone's
membership for lack of participation.   What a relief that's over!  Anna Bachtel will finish the by-laws and they will
be posted on the website.
BYLAWS VOTE:  Majority PASSED.  Thank you.
All documents concerning membership are available on the Members Only page.

17)  The newsletter idea was brought up again briefly.  We will revisit this at a future meeting.

18)   Linda Bennett has brochures available to anyone who wants a few.
After the meeting, several members went a
few doors down in the shpoping plaza to
Angelics, A Quilter's Haven.

Here are the owner's - Ed and Terry Simon
