MEETING MINUTES ~ submitted by Janet Joehlin
1) Welcome everyone. Thank you Diane Wantz for hosting this meeting in Mentor.
2) Non Profit Status- Per Anna Bachtel, the IRS sent her an "Acknowledgement of Your Request for Tax Exempt
Status" dated Feb 21st. In the letter it says: "Normally, you may expect to hear from us within 120 days....." The end of
June would be about 120 days, so Anna will follow up if she doesn't here anything by then.
3) Member questionnaire- Please send finished questionnaires to Dottie Bettiker.
4) Block Designs- Since Janice Kiser is not here today, please bring June and July's block designs to the July meeting.
5) July Meeting- Our next meeting is at the Mantua Center Christian Church on July 15, 2006. The hosts are Nora Brant
and Ellie Monroe. The meeting will begin at 11 am starting with brunch, followed by What is the Judge Thinking? by
Fran Kordek, an NQA certified quilt judge. All members are encouraged to bring quilts to be "mock" judged. A short
business meeting will follow the program. The program cost to members is free, the lunch cost is $5.00. Guests will
pay $15.00, which includes lunch. Associate members have been invited and all have declined. The 10 ladies on the
waiting list have been contacted with the offer to attend and 5 have replied.
Kathy McCarty will also send an invitation to past OLAQ members who can attend for the $15.00 fee.
6) OLAQ Retreat- Kathy Goss has offered to organize an OLAQ sponsored quilt retreat. If anyone has any suggestions
or ideas or opinions, please post to the list. (Shall we bring in a top named teacher? A mystery quilt? A class? Quilt on
your own? What location? etc.) Amy Jones offered her experiences with her group at Zinck's in Amish Country. She
offered to post her retreat info for us so we can participate with her group in June and December. Any other ideas?
7) Hostess Fee- Kathy Goss suggested raising the hostess fee from $3 to $5. There was a positive unanimous
response.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
TREASURY- See the treasury webpage for details.
MEMBERSHIP- Nothing has changed. there are still 10 ladies on the waiting list.
PUBLIC RELATIONS- No report.
FUND RAISING- They will let the group know if they are taking donations for a lotto basket at the July meeting or
doing something else. Also, Lynn Gray brought up the possibility of the opportunity to sell small quilted pieces at the
Mentor Library. She will look into it. The question came up about it raising funds for the group? Or strictly individuals?
Mary Zeitz suggested that for future raffle baskets, we can use funds from the Treasury to purchase new items since
donations from members may be running out.
PROGRAM- Pat Waldron brought up the possibility of the group taking Shirley Stutz' Wonder Star class. A photo of
the finished quilt is on our Yahoo Groups page in Shirley's photo album. The Handout that was used at Saturday's
meeting is also posted. There were 2 class options offered. The popularity vote was pretty closely divided and $40
class fees were taken along with reservations for particular dates. In the end 10 ladies had reserved August 26th date
(10 person minimum) and 7 ladies had signed up for the October 7 date (with an 8 person minimum). There is a
maximum of 24 in each class. Commitments from OLAQ members need to be made by July 1, 2006. After that the
classes can be offered to our friends. Contact Pat Waldron. Money should be sent to our Treasurer, Kathy Goss.
